BLESSING OF THE SUN’S 28 YEAR CYCLE

The Gemorah (Berachos 59B) states that when one sees the sun in its cycle he shall recite the blessing: He who makes Creation. The cycle began in the original Creation as it is written: And He made the sun to rule the day...and it was evening and it was morning, the Fourth Day. (Genesis 1:16-19) After twenty eight years, the constellations complete their cycle.

This year, 5769, the cycle occurs on Wednesday the 14th of Nissan. The proper time for the Berachah is as soon after sunrise as possible. Preferably before three hours past sunrise. If delayed, one could recite it until six hours after sunrise.

We will gather outside of the Shul right after Shachris. Special prayer books will be available containing the appropriate Berachos and Scripture.

We pray that we will be blessed and be given the opportunity to perform this great Mitzvah at the next cycle.
